After i have my baby...?

after i have my baby.. which isnt until 7 months from now, do i have to worry about my cat? cuz i heard that cats like that milk smell on the baby's breath. but get this, my cat doesnt like milk! he hates it, wont even touch it. so would that mean he wouldnt go near my baby's mouth, cuz he hates milk?

yeah my cats wierd, he hates milk, but loves my garden veggie soup... figures

After i have my baby...?
Nothing to do with milk smell...thats an old wives tale,....what cats do like is somewhere warm to sleep...and if that happens to be baby in its crib then they dont care if they smother the baby or not..I have seen a cat lie on a toddlers head as he slept....get a cat net or get rid of the cat.
Reply:Your cat will be very curious and want to sniff the baby alot at first. I have seen cats try to lick a baby's mouth because of the smell of milk but if you just watch the kitty you should be fine and if he doesnt like milk your ok.

I've learned that if you sit on the couch or bed with the baby and allow the cat (or dog) to come sit next to you and check out the baby every day for the first week or so, the mystery of the new person in the house looses its appeal to the animal because your not constantly shooing it away and telling it to leave the baby alone.
Reply:read the question a few down from yours. its almost the same. no you dont have to worry about your cat. just keep an eye on him when hes around the baby. he might get curoius and smell the baby or scratch the baby too. they make net coverings for the crib so the cat cant get in. but really its with any animal around your baby, not just cats, just dont clean the litterbox, have someone else do it
Reply:You need to be careful around your cat NOW. There is something in their feces that can infect you and harm the baby. So you need to be careful that it doesnt scratch you and find someone else to do the litter box. Other than that I think it was a wives tale about cats and babies. Something like that cat smelling milk on the baby and licking and "stealing" the breath from the baby. Best of luck with your little one when it gets here!
Reply:It all depends on your cat. My cat used to jump right into the bassinett with my son Jasper and try to sleep there.

The hair and dander is bad for the baby not to mention you have watch where the cat tries to lay which in some cases in right on top of the baby.

Dummy (my cat) would lick around my sons mouth after feeding so they like the milk or formula.

Watch your cat and be careful. Some cats have no interest, but then some do.

Good luck and congrats on the pregnancy.
Reply:My cats (we have 5) all love my son, but never, ever tried to climb on him or anything like that. The respect his personal space (which they don't do with me, so it's pretty funny). Just watch the cat and make sure he's not wanting to snuggle up for warmth, and don't leave them unattended together, and it will all be fine.

I have a cat who goes nuts for anything spicy, so I know what you mean!
Reply:Oh my GOD! NO, you're cat ISN"T going to smother your baby. The baby's breath won't smell like milk - does your breath smell exactly like what you just ate? Cat's sense of smell is over 100 times more sensitive. The baby's breath is going to smell a lot different and will not in any way attract your cat.
Reply:not meaning to be rude... but why would you want your cat to go near your baby's mouth anyways...? If it's true, this is a good thing :) the cat will leave your kid alone which means less worry about it ever being aggressive towards the baby
Reply:You should be fine then. If he doesn't like it now... he won't like it then. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Reply:I gave my kitty to my grandmother, its not just that, its the fact the baby is so warm they want to be by it. Im not really sure if ou should, but if it ends up worryin you to much like it did with me, just give your kitty to someone to take care of it till your baby gets older. if not that just to someone that you know would take care of it and love it
Reply:I had my first one a few months ago and we have a cat and the only problem is the cat wanting to sleep near the baby. Just don't leave them together unsupervised and the cat and baby should be fine. Good luck and Congrats!
